SS 904L Pipes are an acid resistant low carbon containing alloy grade. Aside from having a lower content of carbon in its alloy, these 904L Grade 1.4539 Stainless Steel Pipes are known to have a higher content of both nickel & molybdenum. Characteristically, the Stainless Steel 904L Pipes demonstrates features such as good activation passivation conversion ability, along with an excellent resistance to corrosion. In fact, the corrosion resistance property of the Stainless Steel 904L Pipes are especially pronounced in non-oxidizing acids for e.g. acetic acid, sulfuric acid, formic acid, as well as phosphoric acid at any concentration and under normal pressure at any temperature.
When, this alloy is used in neutral chloride containing media, the pitting resistance of the Stainless Steel Grade 1.4539 Seamless Pipes are excellent. Grade 904l welded pipe is not only resistant to both crevice corrosion and stress related corrosion cracking, but this alloy is also well suited for use in sulfuric acid solution in various concentrations below a temperature of 70 °C. Since the content of carbon is low in ASTM A312 uns n08904 1.4539 pipes, it is free from carbide precipitation especially when a general heat treatment or welding procedures have been conducted on the pipes. Thus eliminating, the risk of intergranular corrosion which can occur after either general heat treatment or welding operations. Due to the higher contents of all three elements i.e. - chromium, nickel and molybdenum along with the addition of copper, the specified grade SA 312 uns n08904 Electropolished Pipes can be passivated even in reducing acid containing environments for instance sulfuric acid and formic acid.
Stainless Steel 904L seamless pipe is highly resistant to stress related corrosion cracking in concentrated hydroxide solutions, chloride solutions, and hydrogen sulphide rich environments due to a high content of nickel.
