Primary Elements: Grade 317 and 317L
are alloys primarily comprised of between 18 and 20 percent Chromium,
11 to 15 percent Nickel, 3 to 4 percent Molybdenum, 2 percent Manganese,
along with trace amounts of Carbon, Phosphorus, Sulfur, and Silicon,
with the balance being Iron. The significant difference between
Stainless Steel grades 317 and 317L is that 317L is the extra low carbon
variation of 317 for welded structures.
